Can Claude help with infrastructure automation? Alex took it for a spin, and these are his conclusions: an experience report on using Claude to learn and solve infrastructure automation problems.

A few brief ideas:

• The prompts matter; use “Act as a [role]. This is the problem. These are the constraints / context. Ask any questions you might have.”
• The context window is still small, so plan and act incrementally
• Double check everything
• Ask it to simplify, provide alternatives, challenge anything that doesn’t look right
• Use separate chats for separate concerns: eg. make it work, security, performance etc.
