Felienne Hermans on Hedy

What would make a good programming language for learning? Find out more about Heidi, a language inspired by Felienne’s research. This is an excerpt from a longer conversation with Felienne Hermans. You can find the whole conversation here: https://youtu.be/CPVN2QO6TK0

Felienne Hermans is an associate professor at the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science at Leiden University, where she heads the PERL group that researches programming education. She is fascinated by the question “how we can teach all people to program?”. In her PhD dissertation she studied how we can help people working with spreadsheets better, by repurposing methods from software engineering. She is also the founder of Infotron, one of the founders of the Joy of Coding conference, and one of the hosts of the Software Engineering Radio podcast, and she writes a column for De Ingenieur. Recently she has authored a Manning book called “The Programmer’s Brain”, available here: https://www.manning.com/books/the-programmers-brain.

You can find Felienne on her website https://www.felienne.com/ and on twitter @Felienne.
