How do experts become experts? And how do domains like medicine compare to software development? Is software craft a good model?
We discuss about this and more with Prof. Dr. Roger Kneebone, author of “Expert: Understanding the Path to Mastery” and a long time curious investigator of expertise in different domains. We share stories from our different domains and compare experiences, in a conversation that passed so quickly that we want to do more.
Prof. Dr. Roger Kneebone had multiple careers. He started as a trauma surgeon in Southern Africa, then switched to a GP practice in South-west England, and then to becoming an academic at Imperial College London. He has been fascinated by how various experts grew to become experts, and distilled the many conversations with them in his book. You can find him on the Imperial College website https://www.imperial.ac.uk/people/r.kneebone, by email [email protected] or on twitter @ProfKneebone.
