On 31st August, Dan North posted a few tweets critiquing the Clean Code book.

We react to those tweets and discuss what it means to have an opinionated school of software development – and why it’s important.

Ok so I took Uncle Bob on holiday with me. Or rather, I decided to finally read Clean Code cover to cover, and wow, I have opinions. I mean, even as a technical book reviewer, I would really struggle. A handful of gems buried amid a vast amount of content that has aged like milk.

– Code is Clean iff it is test-driven.
– TDD is the only way to write clean code.
– Code without tests is “unprofessional”
– Equating professionalism with childish petulance
– High code coverage => quality
– Low code coverage => poor quality
