Space Based Architecture is an architectural style that has recently gained traction within large organizations. While not a new idea (it was created by Microsoft in 1997-1998), it is a very interesting alternative to microservices when the database becomes the bottleneck. The simple description is that a space based architecture uses a distributed in-memory data grid that makes data available in memory where needed, and a set of processing units, services that access the data and communicate between themselves through data changes – never through direct calls.

Learn from this video how the architectural style compares with microservices, what challenges it raises, and what advantages it brings.
